It's hard to sum up this month. I guess that is why Robert Whaley invented the VIX. I would say that the markets, the experts, and the everyday investors are just hoping to ride out the storm of a changing technology economy. Apple, the gadget maker, accounts for somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.16% of the S&P500, so when it tanks the whole index tanks (we can add Amazon and Exxon to that list too). However, the F Fund, the place most investors run to when the "whole" market tanks is not receiving the benefit of a down S&P500 because only a large stocks are making big moves. Normally, I would expect my money to be moving to the F Fund now. In fact my underlying metrics haven't been as bad since 2008, but the F Fund is really no better in a risk vs reward profile. I'm keeping my money in the C Fund at 100% for February. It's what my system, which is devoid of emotion and fear, is indicating that I do.
