I don't know if it is just the 24 hour news cycle or the times in which we live, but it seems that major events happen every day. With the withdrawal of the HOR Obamacare repeal, the markets have begun to doubt other plans put forward by President Trump. The bottom line however is that we have seen six straight quarters of market growth and no one knows if it will continue. A Navy co-worker of mine asked me last weekend which way I thought the market will go for the rest of the year, and my own personal opinion is that it will probably stay flat for the year. HOWEVER, flat between now and then does not mean I can't take advantage of the efficient market theorem and invest wisely and generate excess returns over the next nine months. By smartly reallocating my portfolio, I have a greater chance of generating higher returns while reducing my risk. Already for this year, I am at 6.5% with 1.5% standard deviation vs 6.0% and 1.58% standard deviation for the C Fund. Although the I Fund has less risk and a much greater return for the year, I am tempering my investment by examining the longer term performance of the Fund (2.9% standard deviation vs 1.8% for the C Fund). As a result, I am increasing my C Fund and investing in the I Fund for the first time since December 2013! Happy Investing!
