Welcome to June! I honestly think the markets, while still showing some very robust signes of life are starting to hit their stride for the year. All the upheaval with the elections and the uncertainty of a new administration are probably all built into the market at this point, and barring any unforseen Black Swan event, we will probably start to see returns in the C and S Funds that hover between +/- 1.5%. However, the I Fund and the international markets are the elephant in the room. With Trump expect to pull out of the Paris Climate accords, continued instability in Europe, and oil still low prices, the I Fund is defying all expectations. Therefore, even though its returns are outstading for the year, its risk is still quite high. I am sacrificing some returns by not investing more in the I Fund, but as we have seen in the past, upswings and downsings of the I Fund can be quite large. The important note to remember is that I am seeking long-term returns while attempting to keep my risk as low as possible. Keep investing!
