August is in the books; I was fairly close in my prediction of August performance. I stated that I would not be surprised if August was a down month across the board. We did in fact see some retraction in both the S and the I Fund and the C Fund had modest gains, but compared to the performance of the F Fund, August was a down month. I stated on several occasions why I do not invest in the F Fund unless absolutely necessary and how I NEVER invest in the G Fund. This is the price we pay to "Mr. Market" to have the opportunity to take advantage of the market swings that the F Fund does not provide. My position for September is a more refined assessment of last month, more investment in the C Fund and the I Fund and a complete withdrawal from the S Fund. There has been a lot of talk lately of how the market is turning bearish and people will point to the increase in bonds (see the F Fund), but we are not close to a run into bonds, especially when the run only results in a return of 0.91%. Keep calm and keep investing!
