Welcome to May, and the continuation of unsettled markets, political turmoil, and a potentially volatile earnings season. All of which make for a very unpredictable market. I did have a respectable return on my TSP investments last month, with the big winner being the I Fund. I would say that the I Fund looks promising for the future, but there is still too many unknown variables in the overseas markets to continue with the I Fund for the next month. The summit between Kim Jon Un and President Trump could provide a big boost for Japan or it may not, no one can agree on what the outcome will be and what impact it would have on Japan's economy and how the ASEAN countries will react. While the tariffs are still an unknown factor as they continue to be a moving target, they can still pose a risk to both the C Fund and the I Fund. I'm staying strong on stocks specifically the S Fund and will avoid the F Fund completely. You will notice that this is one of the months in which I deviate from the efficient frontier. Many factors play into this decision, to include the seasonality of the market, the Sortino Standard Deviation, and the regular Standard Deviation of the historical returns of the TSP Funds. For my system, the best investment for the next month is the S Fund. The risk present in outside forces that can affect the other funds is just too great in my opinion. Keep Investing!
