If you take a look at my post from September, I ended it with saying I would not be surprised if we saw another flat month for October. Well, the results across the board are pretty surprising, but I should say they are not unexpected. To put a finer point on it, I expect choppy months like the one we just had in general terms, but I did not expect a market to perform this way when the underlining economy is performing so well. The key is to not panic. I am investing for the long-term and if I sell or move funds around to chase the market, I will be like a cat chasing its tail. As we saw towards the end of the month, anyone who chose to sell, lost out on the rallies in the last two days. To put this month in perspective, the last time we had a poor month like this was August 2015. After that very rough month, the C Fund experienced down months during 5 of the next 14 months. I do not think we are in that position just yet. What I do think is there is a tremendous amount of "how much longer can this good market last?" coupled with indicators that technology stocks, Amazon just to name one, have unsupported valuations. I also think the market will begin to settle out once the elections are decided. So, for the month of November, I am still 100% in the C Fund. Of all of my options, including the F Fund, it has the strongest fundamentals and the risk of moving my investments to the "safe harbor" of the F Fund is just too high, when I think the losses in October are fairly temporary.
