Welcome to Labor Day weekend! What a celebration this Labor Day will be. We are seeing such an amazing run of job growth, GDP growth, and overall positive economic signs that there will probably be many people celebrating their employment and time off this weekend. With my August returns of 4.33%, a function of my heavy investment in the S Fund, I am still strong on the economy, especially the smaller funds that seem to be driving growth across the US, not just the big e-commerce companies. I do believe there will be some profit taking in September, but the long-term outlook for me remains positive. Another note of caution, there has been a considerable rise in stocks, such a rise that some are beginning to question the ability of returns to maintain their current pace. Questions have been asked: how much higher can GDP rise, how much lower can the unemployment rate go, and how long can the longest recovery continue? These are all valid questions, but they require a crystal ball to answer them definitely. I actually think there is still room for improvement. We have yet to see all the changes resulting from President Trump's tariff actions; Mexico signed on but Canada, China, and the EU are still up in the air. If these efforts succeed, and the mid-term elections do not change the status quo significantly (Congress can flip but not a landslide), then the continued change in our economy and positive outlook on company earnings will continue.
