Welcome to February. The markets are not disappointing. The C Fund, where I had 100% of my investments and 100% of my allocations increased 8% with the S Fund really taking off at over 11%! These types of returns in January are unheard of and would bea cause for concern in February, if some very key events were not happening. First, it sounds like there could be a breakthrough on the rade/tariff wars with China. Their strategy has not been successful, and with our strong economy able to absorb their retaliation, the US looks to be gaining the upper hand. Even better, our economy barely showed any signs of suffering. Positive for the S Fund. Second, the government shutdown is over. While economists thought it would make a dent in our GDP, I'm thinking those estimations are probably overblown. I do not think another shutdown is in the cards. An emergency declaration is more likely. More positive for the S Fund. Finally, the Apple, Amazons, and GEs of the the world have settled down. Investors are coming to realize that Apple, although its phones are showing lower revenue, are at least telling the truth and that truth also contains $245B in cash reserves. Amazon posted strong earnings (however it is showing a decline in YoY growth rates), and finally, GE looks serious about turning its operations around. Positive new across the entire market. Keep investing!
