Welcome to all of our new subscribers. I'm sure some of you are reeling from your recent tax bill. I know I owed taxes this year when in the previous 10 years, I received a refund. The good news is my tax burden was less than in previous year, but I would rather not owe anything. Consider increasing your TSP (traditional plan) or starting a traditional IRA. Remember, your max contribution is $19,000, so you could see a tax benefit of $4,750 if you are in the 25% tax bracket. For IRAs you can contribute $6,000, resulting in another $1,500 in tax savings. Of course, if your are over 50, you can contribute more. I recommend you look into maximizing both of these savings programs. So now that tax season is behind us, let's look at the TSP and the month of April. For April, I saw an increase in 4.05% as I was 100% in the C Fund, despite some of the worries I posted in last month's post. Your own risk profile will dictate how much risk you are willing to take, and I thought it was important to show how my system was trending, despite my investment in the C Fund. If you are new, I should reiterate, that I never invest in the F Fund unless I have a 100% demand signal to invest in the F Fund, and I never invest in the G Fund. This is based on my risk tolerance. To gain a better understanding of how my risk compares to the Lifecycle Funds and the core funds, see the risk section which is under the "Read More" button on my performance chart. For the year, my risk is at 5.97%, whereas if I decided to invest in the S Fund 100% YTD, my risk would be 7.41%, and the Lifecycle Fund 2030 is 3.15%. So for the month of May, I'm still 100% in the C Fund, and the GDP of 3.2%, despite a government shutdown makes me confident in this allocation. Keep investing!
